I was delighted to attend the CATT online training course after having seen the wonderful impact of CATT on children during one of my clinical psychology training placements. I am extremely interested in the value of play in therapeutic approaches, so CATT fits the bill perfectly. It is a child-centred, non-stigmatising and effective approach. The training I attended was thoughtful, professional and experiential and the trainers were approachable and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this course.

The CATT training we excellent! Great resource booklet, fabulous tuition on the theory and practice as well as group work. The pace and level of teaching was perfect. I felt really enabled to try the method out safely online with other colleagues on the course. I have used the method successfully now with young people and teenagers in CAMHS who could not tolerate EMDR or TF-CBT due to the intensity of their symptoms. It has also worked well with kids with Autism, using toy figures or Lego. This method is now one of my top 3 go-to tools for trauma. Thank you :)

Many thanks to both Carlotta and Dominic for running such a brilliant and informative course. It was a clear and wonderful way to understand the neurobiology of how trauma affects the brain and to see such clear examples of how to use CATT training with young people. This intervention is now my first choice of protocol for working with complex trauma and PTSD. I would highly recommend this course!

What Is CATT?

CATT is an integrative trauma-focused therapy that blends cognitive behavioural theory with creative arts methods, that takes a holistic, client-centred and human rights approach to treatment.

CATT was developed by Dr Carlotta Raby, a clinical psychologist and creative arts therapist in 1997, as a response to the need for a targeted trauma-focused therapy for children and adolescents with complex trauma and PTSD symptoms who had experienced abuse, genocide and acts of war.

Initially developed for children aged 5 upwards, but now used with individuals of all ages, CATT is a 12-stage protocol that facilitates the processing of trauma memories through creative arts techniques, rather than purely talking. This helps the person to remain emotionally regulated whilst expressing and working through their trauma memories.

CATT includes establishing safety and stabilisation prior to trauma memory processing, as well as facilitating post-traumatic growth and recovery. Children and adolescents with childhood trauma treated using CATT have shown rapid and maintained improvement in PTSD and complex trauma symptoms. As a qualified therapist or mental health professional, you and your team can train in CATT to help children and young people overcome PTSD and complex trauma.

How CATT Can Help Your Practice

Valuable Resource For Trauma Memory Processing Through Creative Arts

Trauma can be difficult, and sometimes impossible, for children to communicate and work through verbally, which is why CATT includes expression through creative arts.

Adaptable Methods For Each Individual
The CATT training provides you with 12 steps that can be adapted and adjusted to the requirements of each individual client, to treat PTSD or complex trauma. Due to this, CATT is widely applicable and simple to implement. Following CATT treatment, many children and young people have seen rapid and sustained recovery.

Understand PTSD And Complex PTSD
Training in CATT will give you a clear and usable knowledge of the ways PTSD and complex trauma can manifest in children and young people, including the neurobiology of how trauma affects the brain. Our training will also contribute to you or your employee’s ongoing professional development and education requirements.

Training For Whole Teams & Organisations

We can deliver the CATT training exclusively to your staff team or whole organisation, either in-person or online, whichever you prefer. You also have the option to make a group booking for a batch of places on one of our advertised course at our reduced group rates.
