Children’s Accelerated Trauma Technique (CATT) for PTSD & Complex Trauma

Support Children And Adolescents With Complex Trauma & PTSD To Heal From Their Adverse Childhood Experiences

Do you, or your team, work with children and adolescents who have complex trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)? Would you like to develop your skills and learn an evidence-based trauma therapy that helps young people heal from childhood trauma?

CATT is an integrative trauma-focused therapy that fuses cognitive behavioural theory with creative arts methods and human rights principles, creating a holistic child-centred intervention that helps children and adolescents overcome PTSD and complex trauma. Most trauma-focused therapies have been created for adults and then adapted for children and adolescents. But as young peoples’ mental and emotional capacities to process trauma memories are different to adults, that’s where CATT is different.

Developed alongside children and adolescents, CATT fits with UK NICE guidance (2018) and World Health Organisation guidelines (2013) on treating children and adolescents with PTSD and complex trauma. CATT helps young people to process their traumatic memories in a safe, child-friendly way.

CATT For PTSD & Complex Trauma enhances your therapeutic practice to help children and adolescents heal from childhood trauma and reclaim a happier and more stable future.

A Trauma Therapy For A Brighter Tomorrow

Created specifically for children and adolescents, CATT is a UK NICE guidance and WHO guidance compliant therapy that takes a holistic approach to treating complex trauma and PTSD

The Benefits Of CATT For PTSD & Complex Trauma…

Developed Specifically For Children With Childhood Trauma
CATT is highly effective as it’s one of the few trauma-focused therapies developed specifically for children and adolescents from the ground up.

CATT uses creative arts methods of emotional expression and communication that make it straightforward for children to process their trauma memories in a safe, effective way.

Adaptable For Each Individual Child
Not everyone is the same. CATT is intrinsically child-centred in its approach to treatment.

CATT’s 12-stage process allows each stage to be adapted to each child’s individual needs in order to achieve maximum benefit.

Backed By Science
Talking about  trauma is often impossible or extremely difficult for someone with PTSD or complex trauma, as they get quickly overwhelmed.

CATT’s 12-stage approach starts with facilitating safety and stabilisation, before using creative arts methods alongside cognitive behaviour therapy techniques, that allows children and adolescents to safely process and overcome their childhood trauma memories

What Is Special About CATT?

CATT is an integrative trauma-focused therapy that fuses cognitive behavioural theory with creative arts methods and human rights principles, created specifically for children and adolescents, that helps them process childhood trauma memories and overcome PTSD and complex PTSD.

CATT takes a holistic child-centred approach to treatment, and was developed in 1997 by Dr Carlotta Raby, a chartered clinical psychologist, creative arts psychotherapist and trauma specialist.

Initially developed for children aged 5 and up, CATT is a 12-stage protocol that facilitates the mental and emotional processing of trauma memories through creative arts techniques, rather than purely talking. This helps the child to remain emotionally regulated whilst expressing and rescripting their trauma memories.

CATT works by establishing safety and stabilisation prior to trauma memory processing, as well as facilitating post-traumatic growth and recovery.
